Indian Railway is a vast body which is under the jurisdiction of Ministry of Railway, Government of India that operates Indian National Railway system. It managers 4 largest rail network in the world by size with the route of 67956 km as of March 31/2020 and of which 45881 kilometer or 71% of all the Broad gauge route are electrified with 25 KW 50 Hz AC electric transaction as of 1 April 2020.
They play a major role in transport of passenger as well as goods from one place to another. Passenger train run according to their time table, but the goods trains don’t have a time table. They reach to their destination after a lot of time. Sometimes they are halted at a station for two days or even more due to which the goods inside the train are delivered very late and sometimes there are chances that there is some food material inside the train which starts to decay on its way before reaching its destination. Goods trains are cheaper than truck but due to time inefficiency people prefer truck rather than train.
To solve this problem a mega project has been started known as DFC (dedicated freight corridor). Two DFC are under construction. Eastern DFC and western DFC. This will be the railway tracks on which only goods train will run no passenger train will be allowed to enter the tracks of DFC.
Indian Railway gains the profit of 63% it from freight trains, 27% from passenger trains, 5% from catering, 3% from parcel and 2% from ads. Main loss to Indian Railway is due to the passenger train because 110% is invested in it in order to maintain them like cleaning them from outside to inside maintenance of fans, light, charging sockets, bulbs, cleaning of toilets etc.
DFCCIL (dedicated freight corridor Corporation of India Limited) has been given the charge to construct the DFC. The length of both the DFC Eastern DFC and western DFC will be1504 km and 1856 km respectively. The Eastern DFC will be laid from Dadri to Jawaharlal Nehru port Mumbai. Western DFC will be laid from Ludhiana to....... and government has planned to make Industrial Corridor parallel to DFC. Western DFC will be completed by 2022 to and more than half of its section has already been opened. The station along the DFC will be of same name as the station of Indian Railways just NEW will be added former to the name of the station.
DFCCİL has decided to run double stack container train so that huge amount of goods can be delivered within short period of time and at the place of diesel engine DFCCIL has ordered a 12000 horsepower WAG-12 engine which is electric.
DFC main agenda
is 2 to supply I goods all over India within 24 hours. WAG - 12 engines can pull 13000 tons at a time. It is a double engine if we separate these it will not work. DFC has not given a label crossing either underpass or over bridge has been constructed.
There was a difficulty in Aravali Hills. If DFCCIL lead track around the hell about 40 km of distance was added so they built a tunnel of 1km. The main feature of tunnel that makes it different it from other tunnel is that it not only it will
take double stack container but it will allow electric double stack container to pass from it. It is a made in Sohna near Haryana. It is present at western DFC.
DFC control Centre is made in Prayagraj. The station will be made of two types on the route of DFC.
The railway station of DFC will be of 2 kilometer and the normal Indian railway stations are of 700. To lay the tracks of DFC new track laying machines were brought which constructed 1.5 km of track every day. Minimum number of Fish plate has been used while constructing the tracks in order to give speed to train. The metal used in making the track has a weight of 68 kg per meters. Earlier the goods train had an average speed of 25 km per hour but DFC has increased it to 80 km per hour. After the opening of DFC and moving the goods through them the rate of goods we receive will be cut up by 40%.
